Rift Beta updates inc – Patch goes live and RP-PVP servers gone!

In Gaming, MMO, RPG on February 11, 2011 at 6:58 pm

A new update has gone live on the beta servers. It could be that they’re updating the servers for beta testing, but at least it’s nice to see a bit more activity than the usual you’re-not-allowed-to-play.

Rift beta patch update

Rift beta patch live as of the 11th of Feb, 2011

The download is almost 200MB so it probably just has a few bug fixes and maybe that PVP server change.  My download’s finished and applying as we speak. I’d like to at least be able to log into the game and see the offline shards. +1 for activity!

Rift Beta Video Review – But you’re not in Telara anymore either

In Gaming, MMO, RPG on February 10, 2011 at 7:15 pm

I Need My Fix
It’s been only a few days since I was last on Rift: Beta, and the withdrawal symptoms are starting to become severe . For a hardened MMO and RPG veteran who had grown disillusioned with them all, that’s saying something.

Rift is far prettier than WoW

The playing of Rift over the Beta 6 weekend was marred partly by guilt over the robotics coursework I was supposed to be doing. Read the rest of this entry »

WoW Anti Troll measure: Real ID on forums

In Funny, Gaming, MMO, RPG on July 9, 2010 at 6:19 pm

Hello folks. It’s been a while since I made a blog post, but this came up and it seemed like as good a reason as any to start procrastinating on my applied maths research through blogging.

Some of you may have heard of Blizzard’s plan with the battle.net update merger to implement a Real ID system for both in-game identification (across main characters and alts) as well as the forum.

Dimitiri aka Comrade Leon-Stalin Junior has a few strong opinions about that Blizzard move…

Call of The Crusade

Plans for the next major free content update in Blizzard’s World of Warcraft are already well under way. Both the US and Europe servers should be fully patched by sometime tomorrow and all set for players to enjoy the the cool new content.

The update will bring a slew of new features to the table, catering to two main types of WoW play, Player-Vs-Environment (PvE) and  Player-Vs–Player (PvP), while also introducing some additional features, updates and balance changes. These updates include the Crusader’s Coliseum (a new PvE update), an all-new battleground called the ‘The Isle of Conquest’ and the much-awaited  Druid animal form customization feature.

Tortage

Many of you may have read my previous review of Age of Conan. I found that a majority of users who play the game did agree with my review, while about 50% of the rest felt I did not do the game justice and the remaining 50% felt I had been too lenient. Perhaps. There are valued points on both sides of the argument, and it finally comes down to personal taste, experiences, and opinion. However, I feel that anyone who takes the time to actually play the game, and ponder the various points I raised may find that most of my impressions were quite accurate.

The Gates of Tortage at Night

The Gates of Tortage at Night

One of the points I raised about the game that realy peeved me was the instanced game world. Despite that, I must say that the graphics and design of the world are really good and will often leave you awed at its beauty. So I decided to take a second excursion through tortage. Blizzard’s World of Warcraft Movie Coming Soon: Directed by Uwe Boll!

Uwe Boll Presents…

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Pardon my attempt at humor. It was in poor taste. I could not resist. You can breathe easy, it’s not a Uwe Boll film. In fact, in an MTV article Boll talked about the time he tried to get the movie rights for World of Warcraft:

“I got in contact with Paul Sams of Blizzard, and he said, ‘We will not sell the movie rights, not to you…especially not to you. Because it’s such a big online game success, maybe a bad movie would destroy that ongoing income, what the company has with it.”

I’m sure that’s quite a relief to most Warcraft fans, and as you may already know plans for the movie have been in the works for a while now, and it will be told from an Alliance perspective. Blizzard has recently issued an announcement saying that Sam Raimi, director of the recent Spiderman movies, will be directing the movie. Whilst I slumbered new events have been shaping  the World… of Warcraft. Evidence has come to light concering possibly two new races that MAY join the ranks of the Horde and the Alliance.

Yes, this world. I don't mean the real one.

Good news for all those ardent (addicted?) World of Warcraft players. Yup! A few diligent members in the online gaming community have managed to data mine the PTR (Public Test Realm) game files and uncover evidence of Goblin and Worgen masks for the upcoming Hallow’s End event (WoW’s equivalent of Halloween).
